From the Pastor’s Desk
Most of us use the World Wide Web and receive email from friends and family. We learn a lot from stories that friends send, but we also receive chain-letter e-mails that are a waste of electrons. Many are stories which are usually highly sensational and equally false.
The stories often end with, “Send this to 10 people in the next 10 minutes if you love Jesus. If you don’t love Jesus, just delete this e-mail. However be warned that something really bad is going to happen to you in the next 15 minutes if you don’t.”
One false story concerns the FCC closing down all religious broadcasting in the United States because of a law suit being filed by Madalyn Murray O’Hair. The story ignores the fact that O’Hair has been dead for 20 years.
People get offended when you let them know that they are circulating an untrue story. They must get over it because several months later they send the same story again. This time it comes with a false statement attributed to Jesus claiming He said that we are to prove our love for Him.
We don’t prove our love for Jesus by forwarding email. Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments,” (John 14:15). We prove our love by obeying and serving Him. We prove our love by speaking up for and spreading the true message of the gospel. We prove our love by supporting His church in our local community and working to accomplish the ministry that He wants done in our area.
It is easier to just forward an untrue e-mail and pretend that we are serving the One that is the Truth. The stories will likely reach the very ends of the earth but will do nothing in winning one soul to Jesus Christ. Isn’t it better to speak the truth where you are to people living right next to you?
Now give a copy of this bulletin to ten people in the next six days…and tell them about the love of Jesus Christ.
