Did you notice that spring came earlier in 2016 than it has in your lifetime? It officially arrived at 4:30 a.m., March 20th Greenwich Time. That’s the earliest its been since 1896. Most of us remember when spring came on March 21 rather the 20th. 

The reason for the slippage is because our Gregorian calendar has to be adjusted to account for the difference between our 24 hour clock and the actual rotation of the earth. We make up the difference by adding a day to February on Leaps years. But once every 100 years we skip a leap year because a complete day every four years gets to be too much… except every 400 years. Thus the year 2000 was a leap year rather than a “skip” year. Spring is now March 20th.

I wonder if the angels think us somewhat arrogant to assume authority to declare winter over in spite of where the sun is in relationship to the earth. It is as if man expects the earth, itself, to tilt at his direction and for his convenience. Modern man seems to believe that there is nothing beyond his control and little in God’s established order of things that should not be changed. 

If declaring a season over before it is over is not haughty enough, man also changes the clock twice a year. The problem is that we can’t seem to settle on when to change daylight savings time or if every time zone will observe it. 

I am reminded of what Daniel said about the Antichrist changing times and seasons. “He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Highest One, and he will intend to make alterations in times and in law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time,” Daniel 7:25. 

Satan will think that he has finally won and gained control. Little will he know that his own judgment is at the door. Time and eternity are still in God’s hands. And, His laws don’t change with the whims of man.
